How to prevent car theft

Automobiles are prime targets for burglars, so take every precaution against having your car stolen. Set the emergency brake, put the car in Park or in gear, turn the wheels sharply to the curb, and lock the steering column. Roll up the windows, put valuables out of sight, and lock the doors.

A wide variety of antitheft devices is available, including theft-resistant door-lock knobs and locks for the hood, trunk, wheels, and steering column. Use as many of these as make you feel secure. If you cause a thief difficulties, he'll look for easier quarry.

If you park in a risky area, you may want to open the hood and remove the thick wire that leads from the center of the distributor cap to the ignition coil and take the wire with you. On cars with the coil built into the distributor cap, disconnect the thick pink wire from the cap flange.
